Know Your Customer (KYC) ID Verification, is an extra verification process to help us confirm your identity. It involves you submitting additional identification documents and information to help Tala verify your identity.
Know Your Customer (KYC) is a process designed to support Tala in verification and identity of the customers we do business with. It allows us to verify our customers’ identity and ensure they are acting legally. The purpose of KYC is to protect Tala and its customers from fraud, money laundering and other financial crimes.

The specific documents required may vary, but typically include:

  • A valid government-issued ID i.e your National ID (front & back)
  • A picture of yourself (selfie) captured live and directly from your phone

Its easy!

  • You can submit documents directly via the Tala App. Follow the steps right in the app to upload clear photos of your documents.
  • Alternatively, you will get a link via SMS to upload your documents securely.

It usually only takes a few minutes. We will notify you once your documents have been reviewed and your account has been updated.

If there are any issues with your documents, we will contact you to let you know what needs to be corrected and you will have the opportunity to resubmit your documents.

Yes, we take the security of your information very seriously. We use encryption and security protocols to protect your data in compliance with data protection legislation.

At the time of taking your first loan with Tala, you will only be initially required to submit your KYC documents. If you previously took a loan with Tala and you are in the process of borrowing again, and have not previously submitted your KYC documents, you will be asked to provide that documentation during your application process. KYC documents are only required once or if a legal or regulatory change requires a resubmission.
